Recent progress in electrospun nanofibers and their applications in heavy metal wastewater treatment

摘要: Novel adsorbents with a simple preparation process and large capacity for removing highly toxic and nondegradable heavy metals from water have drawn the attention of researchers. Electrospun nanofiber membranes usually have the advantages of large specific surface areas and high porosity and allowing flexible control and easy functionalization. These membranes show remarkable application potential in the field of heavy metal wastewater treatment. In this paper, the electrospinning technologies, process types, and the structures and types of nanofibers that can be prepared are reviewed, and the relationships among process, structure and properties are discussed. On one hand, based on the different components of electrospun nanofibers, the use of organic, inorganic and organic−inorganic nanofiber membrane adsorbents in heavy metal wastewater treatment are introduced, and their advantages and future development are summarized and prospected. On the other hand, based on the microstructure and overall structure of the nanofiber membrane, the recent progresses of electrospun functional membranes for heavy metal removal are reviewed, and the advantages of different structures for applications are concluded. Overall, this study lays the foundation for future research aiming to provide more novel structured adsorbents.

Water-soluble BODIPY and aza-BODIPY dyes: synthetic progress and applications

摘要: In recent years, boron-dipyrromethene (BODIPY) and boron-azadipyrromethene (aza-BODIPY) dyes have attracted considerable multidisciplinary attention due to their diverse applications. By introducing various hydrophilic groups, such as quaternary ammonium, sulfonate or oligo-ethyleneglycol moieties into the BODIPY core, the solubilities of these dyes in aqueous solution can be greatly improved while maintaining their high fluorescence quantum yields. Accordingly, applying these fluorescent dyes in aqueous systems to areas such as chemosensors, biomacromolecule labeling, bio-imaging and photodynamic therapy has been achieved. In this article, the recent progress on the synthesis, optical properties and application of water-soluble BODIPY dyes and aza-BODIPY dyes is reviewed.

Costs and prices for renewable energy development in industrialized countries and applications to China

摘要: Developing renewable energy is now becoming a hot topic as it is important in dealing with climate change issue and energy supply issue. With the growing demand of energy, it has become urgent to develop the effective policies and measures that would enable people to maintain the living standards. Among all the measures, price is an essential one. In order to evaluate the costs and prices of the electricity from renewable energy sources (RES-E) and their effects to the market, this paper firstly focus on the extra costs of the RES-E by breaking it into four parts, including investment, construction, connection and operation. Then, the policy choices made in some typical industrialized countries are examined to find answers to the problems RES-E can raise. Finally, the choices made in China are examined in comparison to industrialized countries so as to determine how the current situation could be improved.

Research on applications of piezoelectric materials in smart structures

摘要:

Piezoelectric materials have become the most attractive functional materials for sensors and actuators in smart structures because they can directly convert mechanical energy to electrical energy and vise versa. They have excellent electromechanical coupling characteristics and excellent frequency response. In this article, some research activities on the applications of piezoelectric materials in smart structures, including semi-active vibration control based on synchronized switch damping using negative capacitance, energy harvesting using new electronic interfaces, structural health monitoring based on a new type of piezoelectric fibers with metal core, and active hysteresis control based on new modified Prandtl-Ishlinskii model at the Aeronautical Science Key Laboratory for Smart Materials and Structures, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics are introduced.

Recent progress on nanostructure-based broadband absorbers and their solar energy thermal utilization

摘要: Nanostructure-based broadband absorbers are prominently attractive in various research fields such as nanomaterials, nanofabrication, nanophotonics and energy utilization. A highly efficient light absorption in wider wavelength ranges makes such absorbers useful in many solar energy harvesting applications. In this review, we present recent advances of broadband absorbers which absorb light by nanostructures. We start from the mechanism and design strategies of broadband absorbers based on different materials such as carbon-based, plasmonic or dielectric materials and then reviewed recent progress of solar energy thermal utilization dependent on the superior photo-heat conversion capacity of broadband absorbers which may significantly influence the future development of solar energy utilization, seawater purification and photoelectronic device design.

Non-thermal plasma enhances performances of biochar in wastewater treatment and energy storage applications

摘要: Surface functionalization or modification to introduce more oxygen-containing functional groups to biochar is an effective strategy for tuning the physicochemical properties and promoting follow-up applications. In this study, non-thermal plasma was applied for biochar surface carving before being used in contaminant removal and energy storage applications. The results showed that even a low dose of plasma exposure could introduce a high number density of oxygen-functional groups and enhance the hydrophilicity and metal affinity of the pristine biochar. The plasma-treated biochar enabled a faster metal-adsorption rate and a 40% higher maximum adsorption capacity of heavy metal ion Pb2+. Moreover, to add more functionality to biochar surface, biochar with and without plasma pre-treatment was activated by KOH at a temperature of 800 °C. Using the same amount of KOH, the plasma treatment resulted in an activated carbon product with the larger BET surface area and pore volume. The performance of the treated activated carbon as a supercapacitor electrode was also substantially improved by>30%. This study may provide guidelines for enhancing the surface functionality and application performances of biochar using non-thermal-based techniques.

摘要: In an era of graphene-based nanomaterials as the most widely studied two-dimensional (2D) materials for enhanced performance of devices and systems in solar energy conversion applications, molybdenum disulfide (MoS ) stands out as a promising alternative 2D material with excellent properties. This review first examined various methods for MoS synthesis. It, then, summarized the unique structure and properties of MoS nanosheets. Finally, it presented the latest advances in the use of MoS nanosheets for important solar energy applications, including solar thermal water purification, photocatalytic process, and photoelectrocatalytic process.

An overview of the development history and technical progress of China’s coal-fired power industry

摘要: As the main power source of China, coal-fired power industry has achieved a great progress in installed capacity, manufacturing technologies, thermal efficiency, as well as pollutant control during the past century. With the fast development of renewable energies, coal-fired power industry is experiencing a strategic transformation. To specify the development of coal-fired power industry, its development history is reviewed and the technical progresses on aspects of thermal efficiency, pollutants control and peaking shaving capacity are discussed. It is concluded that the role of China’s coal-fired power source would be transformed from the dominant position to a base position in power source structure. Considering the sustainable development of coal-fired power industry in energy conservation, emission control, and utilization of renewable energies, it is suggested that the national average thermal efficiency should be improved by continual up-gradation of units by using advanced technologies and eliminating outdated capacity. Moreover, the emission standard of air pollutants should not be stricter any more in coal-fired power industry. Furthermore, the huge amount of combined heat and power (CHP) coal-fired units should be operated in a decoupled way, so as to release more than 350 GW regulation capacity for the grid to accept more renewable energy power.

摘要: 概要:本文从工程师角度出发,对当前先进控制方法在航天器上的应用情况进行综述。本文没有从先进控制方法的理论研究入手,而是从工程实际出发,重点关注包括在轨试验、地面物理仿真实验以及基于在轨数据的仿真实验三类工程应用情况。本文的目的是向工程师们展示已获得实际应用的先进控制方法,而不是仅仅停留在理论研究阶段的方法。我们通过大量的文献调研发现,尽管当前先进控制理论和方法发展得非常迅速,但是绝大部分先进控制方法距离在航天器上实际应用还有较远的距离。目前,国内外发射的大量航天器中,只有屈指可数的极少数航天器采用了先进控制方法,其中H2/Hinfinity鲁棒控制主要用在弹性模态较为明显的航天器上,MARC等自适应控制方法主要用于处理模型不确定的情况,LQR主要用于对航天器性能进行优化。望从事航天器控制的工程师们通过本文的研究,可以对具有较强工程应用价值的先进控制方法有一个全面的认识;同时,也向理论研究者们提出了航天器实际的工程需求。

智慧能源战略为能源行业转型提供互联互通、透明开放、互惠共享的能源共享平台,数字孪生技术将助力解决智慧能源发展所面临的技术与市场壁垒问题。当前数字孪生技术在智慧能源行业应用仍处于起步阶段,相关的技术拓展和应用场景研究仍不充分,尚未形成系统性的研究框架。本文旨在总结国内外面向智慧能源系统的数字孪生技术的发展经验并探讨其未来发展思路,以期促进数字孪生技术在智慧能源行业中的深化应用。通过比较国内外不同领域对数字孪生技术的定义和应用,探讨了面向智慧能源系统的数字孪生技术的定义,对其通用架构、关键技术和生态构建分别进行了阐述。据此进一步分析了数字孪生技术在智慧能源行业的部署和应用案例。从技术发展、生态构建和政策建立三方面给出了对策建议,以期为数字孪生技术在智慧能源行业的工程应用提供参考。

Applications of thermostatically controlled loads for demand response with the proliferation of variablerenewable energy

摘要: More flexibility is desirable with the proliferation of variable renewable resources for balancing supply and demand in power systems. Thermostatically controlled loads (TCLs) attract tremendous attentions because of their specific thermal inertia capability in demand response (DR) programs. To effectively manage numerous and distributed TCLs, intermediate coordinators, e.g., aggregators, as a bridge between end users and dispatch operators are required to model and control TCLs for serving the grid. Specifically, intermediate coordinators get the access to fundamental models and response modes of TCLs, make control strategies, and distribute control signals to TCLs according the requirements of dispatch operators. On the other hand, intermediate coordinators also provide dispatch models that characterize the external characteristics of TCLs to dispatch operators for scheduling different resources. In this paper, the bottom-up key technologies of TCLs in DR programs based on the current research have been reviewed and compared, including fundamental models, response modes, control strategies, dispatch models and dispatch strategies of TCLs, as well as challenges and opportunities in future work.

Progress and prospect of hydrate-based desalination technology

摘要: With the continuous growth of the population and the improvement of production, the shortage of freshwater has plagued many countries. The use of novel technologies such as desalination to produce fresh water on a large scale has become inevitable in the world. Hydrate-based desalination (HBD) technology has drawn an increasing amount of attention due to its mild operation condition and environmental friendliness. In this paper, literature on hydrate-based desalination is comprehensively analyzed and critically evaluated, focuses on experimental progress in different hydrate formers that have an impact on thermodynamics and dynamics in hydrate formation. Besides, various porous media promotion is investigated. Besides, the hydrate formation morphology and hydrate crystal structure with different hydrate formers are analyzed and compared. Moreover, molecular dynamic simulation is discussed to further understand microscopic information of hydrate formation. Furthermore, simulations of the HBD process by considering the energy consumption are also investigated. In conclusion, the hydrated based desalination is a potential technology to get fresh water in a sustainable way.
